According to him, the bauxite–alumina–aluminium downstream project in Mempawah, West Kalimantan, reflects the group's contribution to strengthening the national economy and state sovereignty through natural resource-based industrialization.This commitment is realized through the role of PT bukit asam Tbk (PTBA), a member of the Indonesian Mining Industry Holding MIND ID, which ensures a reliable and sustainable energy supply for the bauxite–alumina–aluminium processing and refining facilities in the region.PTBA serves as the primary pillar for the operational energy needs of the aluminium smelter, which is a vital part of the national integrated bauxite–alumina–aluminium supply chain. A stable energy supply is a key factor in ensuring optimal production processes.The facility has a processing capacity of up to 3 million tons of bauxite into 1 million tons of alumina per year, which is then further processed into approximately 600,000 tons of aluminium. This capacity positions the Mempawah project as one of the essential pillars in strengthening Indonesia's downstream mineral industry.In terms of economic impact, this project is projected to potentially create more than 65,000 jobs. These opportunities arise not only from the mining sector but also from supporting industries, regional infrastructure development, and the growth of micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) within the downstream ecosystem.CEO of Danantara Indonesia, Rosan Perkasa Roeslani, stated that the development of this integrated ecosystem drives the transformation of mineral resources from raw export commodities into strategic raw materials for national industries.“Through this bauxite–alumina–aluminium processing and refining facility, we are driving an industrial transformation that creates jobs and supports national economic growth,” he said on Friday (Feb 6, 2026).Meanwhile, PT bukit asam President Director Arsal Ismail emphasized that PTBA's involvement in this national strategic project in Mempawah is a form of synergy between MIND ID holding members.“PTBA is committed to supporting national downstreaming by providing reliable, efficient, and competitive energy. Furthermore, the energy supply system being prepared is also designed using more environmentally friendly technology as part of the commitment to industrial sustainability.Through increasingly solid upstream-to-downstream integration, the Mempawah project is expected to become the driving engine for the transformation of Indonesia's mineral industry toward higher added value and global competitiveness.
