Mitra Investindo's (MITI) steps to support the downstreaming of quartz sand or silica sand in Indonesia to produce solar panels are getting closer. This follows Nusantara Bina Silika (BNS), a subsidiary of the company, through its subsidiary, Kendawangan Berkah Kersik (KBK), having obtained a mining Business Permit (IUP) for the exploration stage for Certain Types of Non-Metallic Minerals (Quartz Sand). Just to let you know, Silica Sand which has SiO2 content, the main raw material in making Solar Panels. The Exploration IUP obtained by KBK was issued on January 24, 2025 by the Investment and Integrated One-Stop Service Office (DPMPTSP) of West Kalimantan Province (Kalbar) for a working area of 2,042.03 hectares (Ha).Precisely, it is strategically located in Kendawangan, Ketapang, West Kalimantan Province. Well, in the exploration stage of the IUP, the company will conduct general investigation activities, exploration, and feasibility studies of the land to obtain a production operation IUP business permit. "Exploration IUP through KBK of more than 2000 ha, marks the beginning of our footprint in the field of silica sand mining in addition to the total logistics industry that has been an integral part of our portfolio for decades. We are determined to support the government in downstreaming silica to support the independence of the domestic photovoltaic (PV) module and semiconductor industries," said Andreas Tjahjadi, President Director of Mitra Investindo.Andreas added that KBK is targeting to start production by the end of 2026 to support the sustainable growth of Mitra Investindo, and provide benefits to the surrounding community.
