PT Timah Tbk (TINS) is targeting tin ore production to reach 30,000 tonnes of Sn in 2026. This target marks a significant increase from the company’s 2025 Work Plan and Budget (RKAP) of 21,500 tonnes of Sn.TINS President Director Restu Widiyantoro expressed this optimism as production trends have been recovering since May 2025.“We are very confident in our trajectory—by December 2026 we can achieve the 30,000-tonne target for next year,” Restu said during a hearing with Commission VI of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR RI) on Monday (September 22).The recovery is evident in monthly results: 1,228 tonnes in May 2025, up to 1,409 tonnes in June, then 1,713 tonnes in July. In August, production reached 1,877 tonnes, exceeding the monthly target of 1,800 tonnes. Management views this positive trend as crucial to securing this year’s RKAP target while supporting medium-term goals.Restu said improvements in governance, distribution, and the strengthening of the Internal Task Force (Satgas) have been key to the production recovery. The task force is focused on curbing illegal mining in Bangka Belitung, which has been eroding the legal tin market.“This task force is erecting blockades or fencing off areas to prevent illegal tin activities from entering. In Bangka Belitung there has effectively been free competition—head-to-head between legal and illegal operations,” he explained.TINS has prepared three major strategies: area blockades at mine sites, enforcement against illegal mining, and nurturing licensed collectors. The legalization approach is being pursued through the formation of cooperatives. There are currently 30 cooperatives of miners, employees, and fishers partnering with the company. The number is targeted to grow to 200–300 cooperatives so communities can mine legally with their output absorbed by PT Timah.“If they are willing to be guided, they can operate properly. But if not, we will gradually move them out of the tin business,” Restu asserted.
